World Prematurity Day 2016

November is National Prematurity Awareness Month and today happens to be World Prematurity Day.

Most of us do not think about prematurity.  Premature babies happen to someone else.  Right?

Coast Causes

Gathering Riley up from school Monday for OT earlier this week, the woman at the front desk handed me a page from newspaper.  She had spotted Riley in The News-Press of Fort Myers, April 18th, 2016 Causes: Toast of the Coast page 3D.

I just love the little gestures!

John and Ronan have been preparing this past year to enter martial arts tournaments with their Tae Kwon Do Sparring mates.  The first tournament finally presented itself this past weekend as IMAF at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.

Enter the Teenager

I have kids (Wow.. who would have guessed 20 years ago!)… But now the next milestone… I have a Teenager! Riley turned 13 this past weekend. Reflecting back lots of memories and adventures and Crazy Times (CT)…. need the CT’s otherwise we would all go insane (ok, moreso).

My Little Ogre

My youngest child, Ronan, spent the summer rehearsing to play the part of Little Ogre in Shrek The Musical Jr. with Youth Theater Program of The Art Center of Bonita Springs

Over the years, we have been working and praying toward life becoming just a little easier. Hoping for less pain and more joy for Riley, a little more sleep, a few less knocks, a little less struggle… Easier never really comes along despite our efforts; it simply changes. bday celebration

The Truth about Yes” & “No”

A few weeks ago our little family ventured beyond the boundary of SWFL.  I know: it’s hard to believe.  We are trying to become more active as Riley becomes healthier and we have more energy and time to explore.  Our adventure took us to the Tampa Bay Aquarium where we met up with Miss Jessica, Riley’s 2013-14 ESE teacher, and met her beautiful one year old son for the first time.
Seeing her reminded me how one determined teacher with a mission can make a difference in the life of a child and their family.  This is especially true for children with learning disabilities.  Miss Jessica taught Riley to signal “yes” and “no!” Riley could communicate!

Valentine Wrapping

Classroom Valentine Art Feb 2015

The last few months of our journey have been a little extra challenging.  But now it’s time to resume Riley’s Smile.

Family Brunch

Out for Brunch at Collier’s Reserve Country Club, Feb. 15, 2015.

Last Thursday I discovered John working on Riley’s chair.

We are very fortunate to have a kind and caring team of driver and attendant. Truthfully we have been very fortunate over the past several years, discovering kind and compassionate people behind that school bus. Our driver this year has even gone to the Transportation Department successfully requesting to change the route to shorten Riley’s ride time. As usual, Riley is the most fragile on bus 27125 and both driver and attendant do every thing they can for their precious riders.

Halloween Tie Fighter

Riley’s Halloween costume was a great success!
